Leslie SuperTyfon: the Sole Chime Horn Provider - Part 4

"R" is the first prefix that can be added. This signifies that the horn has the newer spike-chambers. That is, S-5T becomes RS-5T. In reality, prefixes come as insertions between the S and dash. Say for instance the following:

• "L" - low-profile, 3-chime or 5-chime manifold
• "U"-for Universal; very low profile 3-chime manifold

In the same manner, postfixes preceded the last designation. Among the postfixes are the following:

• "J" - narrow 3 - chime manifold used by the S-3J
• "R" - one bell reversed
• "RR"-two or more bells reversed
• "O" -normal arrangement of bells on the manifold from left to right that was changed or reversed
• "F"- full orifices
• "X"-with several meanings including experimental and use unknown

Here are examples of designation applying the prefixes and postfixes.

• RSL-5TRROF-has full orifices with two reversed bells with the factory-specified configuration
• S-3BJ-stands for a 3-note SuperTyfon tuning in B Chord, with variable orifices and cast on the J style manifold.
• RS3-KR-this is known with Burlington Northern and it signifies a 3-note SuperTyfon tuned to the "K" chord with RS power chambers with variable orifices, a reversed bell, and setup using a standard 3-chime manifold
• Sl-4TX - for the exclusive use on Amtrak and its stands for a 4-note T chord mounted on a low-profile 5-chime manifold , with variable orifices in an experimental model.

Finally, with the use of only one-sized bells, special designation or labeling was derived. S-XX represents single-note horns. XX implies the bell's number. That is, RS-25 means a single-note horn in which a newer RS-style power chamber and a 25 bell is utilized. With duplicate bells, Leslie Corporation manufactured horns with two bells that were facing separate directions. These sorts of horns were grouped as S-XX-2. On the same manner in which the one-sized bells are designated, the combination is read as a pair of 44 bells on a 2-chime manifold and each bell is overlooking each other. Such type of labeling or designation may be of lesser value. However, the functions and performance of the horns are illustrated merely by the model numbers.
